Melissa Schalles, MS, LVT is a Licensed Veterinary Technician with over 30 years of experience in the veterinary field. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to the care, treatment, and overall well-being of animals across a wide range of species. For more than two decades, Melissa also served as a veterinary nursing instructor and veterinary clinic manager, where she trained and mentored future veterinary professionals. Her passion for education and commitment to excellence helped shape the skills and knowledge of countless students entering the field. Her hands-on experience spans an extensive variety of species — including small animals, exotics, and large animals — from dogs, cats, birds, and exotic pets to cattle, sheep, horses, and pigs. This diverse background has given her a comprehensive understanding of animal health, husbandry, and clinical care across multiple disciplines. Melissa's lifelong dedication to veterinary medicine reflects her deep commitment to animal welfare and her passion for advancing the standards of care within the profession.

Dr. Sarah Nguyen, DVM is a small animal veterinarian with over 12 years of clinical experience in companion animal medicine. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, one of the top-ranked programs in the country. Throughout her career, Dr. Nguyen has developed a strong focus on preventive care, internal medicine, and pet nutrition. She believes that empowering pet owners with accurate, science-backed information is one of the most effective tools in promoting long-term animal health. Dr. Nguyen has worked in both private practice and emergency veterinary settings, giving her a broad perspective on the full spectrum of pet health challenges. She has a particular passion for feline medicine and has lectured at regional veterinary conferences on topics including weight management, senior cat care, and evidence-based dietary guidance. When she's not seeing patients, Dr. Nguyen enjoys hiking with her rescue dog, Bruno, and advocating for responsible pet adoption in her community.

Dr. James Whitfield, DVM is a board-eligible veterinarian specializing in canine behavior, rehabilitation, and nutrition. He completed his veterinary degree at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and subsequently pursued advanced training in animal rehabilitation therapy and integrative veterinary medicine. With nearly 15 years of practice, Dr. Whitfield has treated thousands of dogs and cats across a range of conditions, from routine wellness to complex orthopedic and metabolic disorders. He is an advocate for combining conventional veterinary medicine with evidence-based complementary approaches to maximize patient outcomes. Dr. Whitfield is a frequent contributor to peer-reviewed veterinary literature and has been featured in national media on the topics of canine training methodology, the gut-brain axis in pets, and the rising importance of preventive dental care in companion animals. He currently maintains a private practice in Portland, Oregon, where he lives with his two Labrador Retrievers, Cooper and Finn.
